Ten Things: A Countdown to Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend 17, 2014

Before the Vintage Bathing Suit Contest at  Viva Las Vegas  2013 by Frankie Tease Last year I wrote down a few must-do must-see notes in preparation of the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender event, held in Vegas at Orleans Hotel each Easter Weekend for 16 years, (this is the 17th). This year I am keeping up the tradition in a second edition of the column.  Right now (2.7.14) the Orleans and sister property Gold Coast rooms are completely sold out.  Neighboring Palms or Rio may still have rooms, and I bet you can still get a room at the Tropicana who has a great pool and provides a straight shot down Tropicana to the Orleans where Viva is being held. Whether you come for Thursday through Sunday or just Saturday, here are things I believe are important to you my vintage set and regular folks in ole Vegas.

"Bettie Page Reveals All" Film Director: Mark Mori Interview

This interview with Mark Mori was originally published in "The Best of Frankie Tease Magazine Vol. 1" 2012 ebook. Enjoy. Check for the new film in your city soon. It’s June 2012 (Las Vegas) and I am calling New York to speak with Academy Award Nominated Director Mark Mori about his new film Bettie Page Reveals All (2012) . He aims to give me the scoop on the amazing new documentary about Bettie Page (one of America’s most treasured celebrities), and how she came to narrate her own life’s story for his film. He is a concise well–spoken man who has obviously been changed by getting to know Bettie Page over the last few years of her life on this earth (R.I.P. Bettie 1923-2008). See what fascinating Director Mark Mori (Building Bombs) tells about the new Bettie Page Reveals All film in this interview below. FT: How or why did you start this film project in the first place? MM: Well, in 1996 I was having lunch in Los Angeles with my entertainment attorney, and he

Sexy, Sultry, Playmate Claire Sinclair is the Jewel of Pinup at Stratosphere Las Vegas

The long awaited Pinup Red Carpet event finally came. Two months into working it out the show buzz had been going strong about what type of late night Vegas show this was going to be. First, the show's star Claire Sinclair is perhaps the youngest on the Las Vegas Strip. Though Sinclair has been featured in a suggestive show (Crazy Horse Paris, MGM) this is the first time she's a resident star. With this, she has accomplished going from Print Media to carrying the weight of a Vegas show, all before reaching 22. Delightfully, Sinclair acts as the host of a retro romp through a virtual year of Calendar Girls using the maelstrom of talent in the six piece backing band featuring Trumpeter and Music Director David Perrico, as well as a spectacular singer Anne Martinez. The cast is filled out by four dancers, one lead male, six band members, one singer, and star Claire Sinclair. That's a "lucky 13" cast members. The show creators Drew DiCostanzo and Frankie Mor

Ten Things: A Countdown to Viva Las Vegas 16 Rockabilly Weekender Mar. 28-31 (2013)

Hula Girl at Viva Las Vegas  2012  by Cherry Club Inc I wanted to write a few must do must see notes to readers in preparation to this year's Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender event, which spills out into the city of Las Vegas from its host Orleans Hotel (at Tropicana and Arville near the Strip) each Easter Weekend for 15 years, (this is the 16th). Downtown Las Vegas is where old Vegas still lives, and if you leave the hotel (Orleans is South Strip area), Downtown should be at the top of your must see list. But, here is my Ten Things Countdown for VLV 16.  10- Ladies, get a Hawaiian Wrap.  They are easy to wear with or without strapped bra, and you can combine them with leggings or shorts or bathing suit. Here is something you can dress up or down. It's one of the things you'll never regret packing while attending any vintage themed event. I haven't. Guys, get a hat, any hat, straw recommended. 9- Start doing walking regimen to warm up for being i

Photo Focus: First Friday Downtown Las Vegas March 1, 2013

First Friday is the saving grace for the art community and those looking to connect to working artists and real people in Downtown Las Vegas. Live/work spaces, green living, live music, adult beverages, as well as a kids zone are just a few things you might encounter, as thousands of people mingle in galleries and erected street exhibits along in the Arts District in Downtown Vegas. The area stretches several miles and more can be learned about that at  http://www.firstfridaylasvegas.com/ . This is one of those events that makes people who say there is 'no culture' in Vegas eat their words. Doing so has never been so tasty as at First Friday.  Check out my slideshow of March 1, 2013  focusing on the Arts Factory building and its happenings. Photos and article by Frankie Tease

Teaser Quotes from "The Best of Frankie Tease Magazine Vol. 1" - New eBook Vol.2 Update

Well hello readers. It's been a while since we've talked about the eBook series I launched this year. Lets take a second to chat about what you've missed if you haven't read the book yet, via some favorite interview quotes from Vol. 1: Lisa Lampanelli: When asked if people understand her comedy: "I have this thing: never complain, never explain." Dirty Martini   When asked about how she got into Burlesque: "From the time I was in college, I was working with some of these ideas. Even before college, my choreographic pieces and some of my solo and group work pieces were very Burlesque." Director Mark Mori of "Bettie Page Reveals All"  When asked what it was like for Bettie fans viewing his film:  " When I saw  their reaction, how emotional they were when  they saw the film and how connected - they felt  connected with Bettie before the film - but then  to actually basically come as close as you can  to meeting and e

Skyvue Observation Wheel to Join Vegas Skyline by 2013

Skyvue Observation Wheel to  Join Vegas Skyline  New Year of 2013 A Preview There is a new addition to the Las Vegas skyline making its way to completion very soon. The massive 40 car observation wheel and event center will sit at the South Vegas Strip end, at the intersection of Mandalay Bay Drive and Las Vegas Blvd. The groundbreaking ceremonies were held May 23, 2011, with a promise to see the wheel come to fruition in 18 months. The new structure will be on the East side of the  Las Vegas Strip, the same side as McCarran International Airport. In fact, the wheel may well be the first thing you see flying into Vegas now, perhaps in competition with its neighboring light beam into space coming from the Luxor. Other neighbors to Skyvue include Mandalay Bay, The Little Church of the West, The Las Vegas Sign, and the Luxor who can't be complaining about new business the big wheel in the sky will attract.  Taller than Mandalay Bay (that's tall!), the hanging G
