Photo Focus: "Hipster Hater" at First Friday May 3, 2013

This Las Vegas local and tattoo artist is serious about his hipster hating. I just laughed at his t-shirt, and snapped a pic. When I did so, he began to tell me that he rarely makes it downtown anymore because it's becoming overrun with hipsters. Wow really? I didn't know that. This guy had a pretty strong opinion about it though. Now you know. Mr. Moore is a senior tattoo artist and LV local. 4.3.13. Photo by Frankie Tease

Downtown Podcast and Ticketcake.com Founders and Leaders Interview

Downtown Podcast: Emmy Winning Broadcaster  L-Dave Courvoisier  with Host R-Dylan Jorgensen,  Photo by Vegas LPM A couple weeks ago I was a guest on the Downtown Podcast [ downtownpodcast.tv ]. The podcast focuses on local Vegas Tech news, things afoot in the area specific to Downtown Las Vegas, and a variety of guests for good measure. As a weekly, I was impressed to learn that it was 100% volunteer effort by those in charge at TicketCake.com. I have been watching the changes to Downtown Vegas since I arrived end 2011, and I was shocked how it accelerated in 2012 as so many businesses started to move into the area. They even showed signs of local sustainable culture like walkability, bike lanes, community organizing, a massive First Friday arts event (not new but becoming huge). I just had to speak to the crew to get some info for my readers on what all this Vegas Tech stuff is about, and how it has started a cultural revolution. Remember, this is happening in an area cons

Photo Focus: First Friday Downtown Las Vegas March 1, 2013

First Friday is the saving grace for the art community and those looking to connect to working artists and real people in Downtown Las Vegas. Live/work spaces, green living, live music, adult beverages, as well as a kids zone are just a few things you might encounter, as thousands of people mingle in galleries and erected street exhibits along in the Arts District in Downtown Vegas. The area stretches several miles and more can be learned about that at  http://www.firstfridaylasvegas.com/ . This is one of those events that makes people who say there is 'no culture' in Vegas eat their words. Doing so has never been so tasty as at First Friday.  Check out my slideshow of March 1, 2013  focusing on the Arts Factory building and its happenings. Photos and article by Frankie Tease

Tidbits and Teasers: Rosanne Barr Residency, Bill's Gambling Closure, Fremont Country Club DTVL

Rosanne Barr Now at Tropicana Rosanne Barr comes to the Laugh Factory at Tropicana creating a new schedule for Celebrity Magician Murray who'll be moved to the 5pm slot check murraysawchuck.com for his new schedule. Barr is famous for her TV shows, and will now be holding the dinner slot at the newly renovated Hotel's comedy club. Visiting headliner shows will remain at 8 and 10pm at Vegas Laugh Factory. It is indeed getting busier for the club since its 2012 open. Bill's Gambling Hall Closes for Improvement Bill's Gambling Hall has been closed for renovation to be reopened in 2014 (Bill's is across from Bally's, Bellagio, and Ceaser's at Flamingo). It is slated to be a 'lifestyle boutique' hotel with a 65,000 foot rooftop pool being installed and Drai Management overseeing the new day and night clubs. As a Ceaser's property, patrons are being referred to cross the street for their entertainment and hotel stay needs in Vegas. Good Luck

Las Vegas Labor Day Pool Getaways Stand Test of Time

Swim with Sharks or Enjoy a Roof-top Pool at Golden Nugget's H20 The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino Pool is located in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas and is called H20. It is one of the top ten pools in the world on several lists, and its design with three levels and two pools leaves little to be desired. Level one allows you to swim with sharks in the shallow end (they're behind glass) or climb to the third deck to slide through the shark tank in a tube. While on the third floor, pay a little more to enter the adult pool area, no kids allowed. This luxurious rooftop pool area has day beds, cabanas, a bar, and very unique see-through wading pool for those relaxing, drinking and partying. Gaze out at the Downtown Las Vegas skyline as you get served a medley of food and adult beverages. Back at the floor-level pool, Card Dealer Steve will stack up the cards on the outskirts of the pool area, to serve your gambling needs while poolside. Lifeguards

The Love Grub Truck is Las Vegas's Vegan Hipster Food

Love Grub's Infamous 'Sloppy Tots' Photo courtesy of  FoodSpotting.com The Love Grub Truck is one part vegan Hipster, two parts groove, and three parts downtown Vegas.  The truck's  owner  Zach Bartlett , stands in front of the truck and greets patrons on this balmy Las Vegas evening. Zach  restored the classic vintage food truck in March 2011, and after two weeks in front of the thesaurus, Zach's girlfriend came up with the  Love Grub Truck  name because Zach loves to grub. He is a tall drink of water that food doesn't seem to stick to, with a huge smile and style. As you approach the truck which is painted extremely bright construction orange, you may have a flashback to any truck you may have visited across the U.S., because of it's modern yet classic taco truck style. Zach has been working on the concept a lot longer than this year though. He told me that the Vegan Tacos (two for $6) are an item he recalls making at age thirteen, when he w
