The Showroom at the Stratosphere Hotel (the tallest structure in Las Vegas, Nevada) was the place to be that night, as a call had recently been put out to fans of Frankie Moreno, that he wanted them to show "dressed up and loud" for his upcoming live taping with his amazing high energy band. This is the band that plays Wed. through Sat. shows together. Brother Ricky Moreno gave stamps on hands as people mobbed the entrance and free show, on a non-show night, a Tuesday.

Before the Vintage Bathing Suit Contest at  Viva Las Vegas  2013 by Frankie Tease Last year I wrote down a few must-do must-see notes in preparation of the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender event, held in Vegas at Orleans Hotel each Easter Weekend for 16 years, (this is the 17th). This year I am keeping up the tradition in a second edition of the column.  Right now (2.7.14) the Orleans and sister property Gold Coast rooms are completely sold out.  Neighboring Palms or Rio may still have rooms, and I bet you can still get a room at the Tropicana who has a great pool and provides a straight shot down Tropicana to the Orleans where Viva is being held. Whether you come for Thursday through Sunday or just Saturday, here are things I believe are important to you my vintage set and regular folks in ole Vegas.

I missed the opening band Tijuana Panthers, and arrived about ten minutes prior to the Reverend Horton Heat (Texas) taking the stage. I found my place at front of stage and started to get anxious with the rest of the crowd. A lowish stage, and hanging speakers were great conditions. Taken in June of 2013, you can see the famous neon lights of Caesars, Mirage, Trump Tower, and the Flamingo. But don't be fooled, it's well over 100 degrees this week, so bring that bottle of water if you dare to walk the strip. I recommend a tour on a air conditioned bus, personally. One of the most densely travelled intersections of any tourist destinations in the world, this is shot from the street at Las Vegas Blvd. and Flamingo heading North on the Strip.
