Through The Roots V.I.P. Experience Review, Federal Bar Long Beach, CA Mar. 22, 2017

Left to right: Taylor, Evan, Budda of Through the Roots These last couple years have been fun for reggae. As I settled back into living in my hometown of Long Beach, California, I have found many great reggae shows including live dub, conscious, and roots music events . Many of you may not know but Long Beach (aka LBC: Long Beach California) was a mainstay of live reggae in the early 90's, birthed Sublime, and has always had a ton of islanders as its inhabitants. Lucky us.

Vegas' Zombie Burlesque Holds Its Own and Some Other's Too

Fez-Hatted Host Sings at Zombie Burlesque Las Vegas March 2014 By the time I was contacted by a representative of the new "Zombie Burlesque" show in Las Vegas to do a review, I was already curious. Having tracked its opening inside the conglomerate of theaters at Planet Hollywood owned by David Saxe Productions, the V Theater, I had read in the Las Vegas Sun that the show name was conceived via an impromptu napkin poll by Saxe on an airplane flight. David Saxe has a history in Las Vegas,as the son of a traditional Las Vegas Showgirl. His mother wore the 30 pound head dresses and performed in revues.

From America's Got Talent to Tropicana's Magic Headliner Murray Sawchuck Makes His Mark

Chloe Crawford - Murray Sawchuck - Lefty  by Frankie Tease Nov.2012, Las Vegas Show Review Murray Sawchuck is one of those people you relish meeting if not for his magic, then for his sheer fame. Tons of people remember him as he spoke these words on America's Got Talent in 2010 "America, this is the trick you'll be talking about tomorrow" and vanished a life-size real train in honor of his Canadian railroad-worker father. A slight-of-hand performer and title holder of World Champion Magician, Murray has been touring the planet for well over 20 years. Korea and Japan are just two of those places he's a favorite and his almost daily show is now at the Laugh Factory at Tropicana in Vegas. Partners include his wife Chloe Crawford, and long-time magic partner "Lefty". Other TV appearances you may know Murray from include: Celebracadabra, Celebrity Blind Date, Entertainment Tonight, Fast Track to Fame, The Jadagrace Show, Jerry Lewis Tel

LA Comedy Club Keeps Going and Going and Going, Las Vegas

Shawn Halpin Headlined LA Comedy Club 6/20/13  Photo by Frankie Tease Joaquin Trujillo and Matt Chavez have had the LA Comedy Club (Las Vegas) brand since 2007. In those six years they have danced through many worthy venues in town, always keeping a great lineup of local, regional, and national talent. Why else would they be able to pull off six shows a week? It all started at Palace Station, moved to Trader Vics and when Trader Vics closed down, they went on to the Four Queens for two years downtown, then moved back to Cabo Wabo to reclaim their spot (same spot at Trader Vics, different operator). Now it's traversed to Bally's. Trujillo stated "We are kind of a hybrid, we cater to tourists, but we have always catered to locals as well. They always get a two for one ticket price, and we issue special tickets to locals who have always supported us when we invite them on down". It's also worth mentioning that they have an all-you-can-drink special at every

Making Sense of Las Vegas Burlesque and Topless Shows (with a list)

Miss Banbury Cross of England at BHOF 2012 by Cory Royer What's Happening with Burlesque in Las Vegas? The term "Las Vegas Burlesque" is one I recently heard used by a Producer to describe the brand that has become the norm for the art form on the Vegas Strip. This particular brand is more like the Victoria's Secret models than anything you may have seen in the 40's. There aren't always tributes to vintage characters, they might not even be stripping. Also, you may not always have the advantage of clarity about the shows from teaser ads. I'll try to help. While we can all be glad that it isn't amateur night on the strip and that you are guaranteed a high profile star with a hard body, some say it doesn't make sense to use the word Burlesque in a lot of cases to describe shows here on the Strip. It's a bit confusing, let's be frank.  A Genre Struggling with Who it Is Ever since the film "Burlesque" came out which brought C

Tidbits and Teasers: Guns N Roses: Paradise City, Cirque Opens Zarkana at Aria, Aviation Nation Air Show

Guns 'N Roses at Hard Rock G and R kicked off its "Appetite For Democracy," stent at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino amid controversy Saturday. Last week in honor of the bands' residency during Nov., City Commissioner Beth Scow named Paradise Road "Paradise City" Road. She bit off more than she could chew when discovering the explicit scene on the poster was not exactly complimentary to women or Sin City. A revised graphic from their Appetite for Destruction album, the scene showed a woman just sexually assaulted, panties around her calves, and robots nearby all under the famous Las Vegas sign. G 'N R play through end of November. It's just art, right? (Breaking News: G N R controversial poster removed ( via  http://loudwire.com/controversial-las-vegas-guns-n-roses-posters-removed/ ). Cirque De Soleil's Zarkana finds home at Aria A visually stunning acrobatic spectacular, the massive set and expensive cast of Zarkana are now

Norm McDonald Back at Standing-Up, Appearing at Orleans Hotel, Las Vegas, Aug. 10,11, 2012

Many of us recognize the name Norm Macdonald from the 80's and 90's when he had a long run as a comedic actor on Saturday Night Live. His stint as anchor of the hilarious 'weekend update' recurring act on SNL, came after he was one of the comedy writers on the NBC show.  A couple decades have given way to a generation of people who love the odd-styled Canadian. His wit is dry and absurd at the same time, his timing impeccable after years of working with TV and comedy greats like Roseanne Barr, Dennis Leary, Artie Lange, Will Farrell, and the Producer of SNL: Loren Michaels, to name a few. Some of the impressions that may have stuck with audiences most include Bob Dole (hilarious) and Burt Reynolds (classic stuff!). Macdonald is currently the star of the "Sports Show with Norm Macdonald" on Comedy Central, where he dissects topical sports news, funnily. Catch his 2012 tour with two nights at the beautiful Orleans Showroom only. I'm sure this sh

How to burelsque "informing your fans"

You have committed yourself to perform, your costume is ready and you are excited to wow your audience. But wait, who is coming to this show? Unless you are hired for a private event, it is your job to inform your fan base of your upcoming performances. Nowadays promoting doesn't just involve passing out handbills, it is a sophisticated combination of posters, handbills, online invites, and calendar listings. The easiest way for you to manage updating your fans could be creating an email list, fan page, or group. Without delving into each and every medium a  little bit of basics you might apply to make everyone happy at your next show. Each place you play, you will get new fans. How will you keep them informed among all the other event choices they have?  First, make it easy for your new fans to follow you. I recommend you create a free blogsite that is easy to remember, something where your fans don't have to sign in to access (such as yahoo groups or facebook fan p
