Part Two: For Ms. Redd the Viva Las Vegas 16 Burlesque Competition is Personal

Ms. Redd Pinup Model by Holly West Back in March, I wrote part one of this story about Ms. Redd entering the Viva Las Vegas 16 Burlesque Competition. It's her second time, and the first time she was one of the runners up. Read Part One of the story HERE . I wanted to get behind what the preparation was for entering the competition, bring it to light, and also to see what her experience was going on the big beautiful Orleans Hotel Showroom stage. Ms. Redd has had an impressive career as a published print pinup model, and this is the continuation of her first few years as a burlesque performer. With a body like that, it's gotta be hard to go wrong. And she looks good in any light, I've seen her in stage and daylight. She's a stunner. We met for coffee to follow up during April, and finally guys, here is the story as it came to be during Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender 16. FT: So thanks for meeting me to do the follow up for our interest story about

Photo Focus: Reverend Horton Heat at LVCS During Viva Las Vegas 16 3/29/13 Review, Video and Photos

The sticky floors and crowded conditions faded away from the moment the first cord was sung. Reverend Horton Heat just played here in Vegas in December, and somehow we got him again a few months later. LVCS (@lvsaloon on Twitter) was holding a Bee Bop A Lula weekend to run along side of Viva Las Vegas 16. I loved hearing Reverend Horton Heat perform "Bales of Cocain" from the early days, and the crowd sing along to almost every word. Many fans of the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender were present. After the finale' Rev was mobbed for photos and autographs. There were many true fans there that night. The concert wrapped with a drum solo from long-time member Scott Churilla. Wow, drum juggling? I've never seen that. Si Cranstoun's "Dance Halls and Supper Clubs"? The Boys Done Good.

I n 2012, Si Cranstoun came to Las Vegas and played the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender as his first ever U.S. gig. (It was love at first tune for both fans and band, and he's billed again for 2013). That's when I saw the wild audience response to the man and his band.  Is it possible to experience instant nostalgia for that which you have never heard?  Such was the case for me with Si Cranstoun (UK). His live show is like a recording of Doo Wop or Swing Music by Jackie Wilson, Nat King Cole, or at times the power vocals of Sammy Davis Jr.  Si Cranstoun  has just released his new album "Dance Halls & Supper Clubs, Limited Edition" (2012 Galley Music) featuring ten songs and two bonus tracks. What's fascinating about it is that Si is the Composer, Vocalist, and Producer [Engineered by Jon Radford and Si Cranstoun, Mastered by Guy Davie of Electric Mastering], and with all that autonomy, it still sounds amazing. His fifth album effort includ

Si Cranstoun brings Jackie Wilson to life during Viva Las Vegas 15, 2012

Stew Pannaman and Si Cranstoun at Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend, Las Vegas, 2013. Before Viva Las Vegas 15 (Rockabilly Weekend held April 5-8, 2012 in Vegas), I had never heard of Si Cranstoun (Si is short for his birth name Simone). It turns out I had heard of a 50's style singer from the UK who worked with a Portland, Oregon area Pin-up a few years back, though I never new there was a connection. I stumbled into the Bienville Room for the first set that Si Cranstoun played at Viva Las Vegas, and to my pleasant surprise I found a man with the ability to belt out tunes with utter style and control, backed up by a masterful band. Oh, and the man can dance. He played his voice like the instrument so many 50's Rock N' Roll stars used to do. Vocals weren't auto-corrected by top-notch producers in a studio, back then they were laid down clean.  By Sunday of his visit to Viva Las Vegas at the Orleans Hotel, a mass amount of people had heard about Si Cr

The Moonlight Howlers: Psychobilly, Rockabilly, and Family - by Frankie Tease

Announcement added Oct. 24, 2013: [SEE MOONLIGHT HOWLERS AT THEIR ALBUM RELEASE PARTY  NOV. 7 FLAGSTAFF ARIZONA NOV. 8 FLAGSTAFF ARIZONA NOV. 9 PHOENIX ARIZONA NEW LINE-UP NEW ALBUM SAME BROTHER AND SISTER] Moonlight Howlers - Psychobilly, Rockabilly and Family The Best of Frankie Tease Magazine Vol.1: Jan. - June 2012, Las Vegas The Moonlight Howlers are a seriously hard-working, young, talented, trio out of Arizona. The band is made-up of Composer and amazing Stand-up Slap Bassist Raffael Weatherly, aka "Bones", aka Raffe (Male 23), Drummer and Singer Aeriel Weatherly, aka "Siren", aka Ari (Female 21), and Guitarist and Singer Tory Putman, aka "Lee Terror" (Male 27). The band all has two things in common: they have names that could be super heroes in a comic book, and they are family. I saw the Howlers on a really cold wet night in November of 2010 in Portland, Oregon, and immediately loved their music and danced all night to

The Big Six 'Rocked' Us at Viva Las Vegas 15 - by Frankie Tease

The Big Six photo courtesy of the band. Part of the decision for me to attend this year's Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender was pushed over into reality by the fact that the Big Six of England would be one of the headliners. They have a very fond place in my heart, and hearing they'd be back in the states was exciting. You see, several years ago (perhaps in the teen count) this fiery band appeared at a little club I was at on the regular called 'The Derby' in Hollywood, maybe you've heard of it? It was an amazing night, and it converted me into a Big Six listener, as well as enthusiast. I wore those perfectly-measured-for-Swing-Dance albums out. Make that album. Back then, they had only the first album available 'Ready to Rock', chalk-full of 20 tunes, both top-notch covers and originals. Part of what I took from their live performance was their insane antics, like standing on the bass and lighting the piano and the bass on fire. Would the Big Six sti
